Meet Dr. Katie King: Blending Science, Art, and Advocacy—One Smile at a Time

Dr. Katie King, practicing in Novato, Marin County, brings a powerful mix of passion, precision, and purpose to the field of orthodontics. A graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) orthodontic residency program, Dr. King didn’t originally plan to become an orthodontist—in fact, her path started with a plan to pursue prosthodontics. But two mentors, Dr. Eric Phelps and Dr. Jason Cohen in San Jose, helped her see where her talents and passions could shine brightest.

“I have an engineering background and have always loved to create,” she explains. “Orthodontics is the perfect fusion of art, science, medicine, and engineering. It’s an incredible way to help people feel more confident through their smiles.”

Dr. King is also a proud and active member of the California Association of Orthodontists, where she brings not just her clinical expertise—but also her voice as part of the next generation of leaders. “Being a younger member in leadership is important to ensure our perspectives are heard,” she shares. “The CAO does so much advocacy work behind the scenes, both for our profession and our patients. If we don’t advocate for our profession, who will?”

She also values the CAO for the connections it fosters. “The camaraderie and ability to connect with colleagues throughout California has been invaluable,” she says.

Outside the world of orthodontics, Dr. King is an avid runner—with serious credentials. She’s completed six marathons, including two World Majors: Boston and Berlin. “My goal is to someday complete all the World Marathon Majors,” she says.

Driven, creative, and committed to both excellence and advocacy, Dr. Katie King is helping lead orthodontics forward—on the track, in the clinic, and through her work with the CAO. We’re proud to have her on our team.
